Blogging: More than Just a Number

Okay, so this has been bothering me for quite some time now, and I wouldn't be who I am if I didn't get this off my chest. Recently, I've been bothered by the numerous posts I've seen on various health/fitness pages that I subscribe or "like", where people are pretty much begging for likes, follows, or whatever you want to call it. Aside from the logistics of those that "manage" these pages are not really crowd sourcing, it truly made me take a look of why I blog or make posts on social media sites.

I really just don't get it. Granted I'm very new and "green" to this whole blogosphere, but are people really that shallow and desperate for "likes", that they will post "hey I need five more people to get to 2,000 followers, please visit my link? At first, I use to just respond and add my link to these posts, but when I started to pay attention to what they were posting, I noticed many of them didn't share any common ground.

So Why do I blog?
Well for me it's pretty simple. I like to interact with like-minded people, it's a great way to de-stress, and I use it as an accountability tool for my wellness journey. I could carless about the number of likes I have, or unique visits, or whether my domain is self hosted. Why I am an ambassador for amazing organization, I have no interest in being involved with so many others out there whose missions says one thing; yet its application requires me to input my twitter handle to see how many followers I have. What happened to good old-fashion fun. If you like with someone shares "like" it, leave a comment, go ahead and follow them. Let's support one another and continue to shameful useful information. I'm fully aware that meaningful relationships have flourished from some of these sites, but for me I cannot support someone or something that I do not feel personally connected to.

So how about you? Are you blogging for numbers or as a means to make some extra income. I certainly don't mean to ruffle anyone feathers….I guess that's the beauty of this thing- to each his/her own.

And then it's the whole product advertising thingy. By all means I don't have a problem with companies looking for new, innovative ways to market their products. As a matter of fact, i think it is a terrific idea especially with the way we have advanced technologically. What I don't get is, the whole request someone to test your product if they blog/tweet/facebook/instagram it. Maybe I'm just sensitive or as I stated before still "green" and figuring this whole thing out, but it seems to me the companies only select those with a certain number of followers. Ugh hello, shallow!!!!! As if only the "popular kids" could sample said product and share their personal account of it. I wonder if some of these organizations or companies, ever took into considerate that the person with 1,500 followers over half of them probably just scrolls down their timeline or newsfeed, not even taking a look at your product or ambassador program.

At the end of the day, I've learned that just like so many other things in this world it all boils down to NUMBERS!

  1. I know what you mean about the "following" posts. I actually did that with instagram and then my feed was full of crappy pictures and I no longer enjoyed instagram. I stopped doing it. If people like me, they'll follow along. My blog/instagram/twitter is my space to be me and that will lead to finding like minded friends organically :)
